You should contact the funeral director immediately. The funeral director can give you much valuable information, and he or she needs to know what you are planning. Find out when the service will arrive at graveside and determine the exact schedule for the graveside ceremony. (The VFW, Shriners, etc., sometimes have extra ceremonies which are of known lengths.) The funeral director is experienced and will have an accurate time estimate for you. On the day of the funeral, the pilots should arrive about one hour before the funeral starts. When they arrive, talk with them about timing. Determine how many minutes will it take to warm up, taxi out, take off? How long to form up? How long is the flight to the cemetery? Add up the times, decide how much lead time the funeral contact should use when calling for engine start. Appoint one pilot group leader, and then iron out the details, considering formation options. |
